In the meantime here in the Eastern US it will be another round of record highs coming for Thursday with highs reaching into the 70s over a large portion of our area from Southern New England to New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania south to the Middle Atlantic States
Such is the weather pattern we have been stuck in and will be stuck in for another week or so. When you have a deep tough in the jet stream that is in the west, it means a big ridge in the east and that spells warmth.
Once that storm in the Great Lakes moves to Southeastern Canada, a trailing cold front will trigger off some showers and thunderstorms here on Saturday and there is the chance that some of those storms could become rather strong as the front moves through Saturday evening. Once that goes by we will turn a little colder (or cooler) and dry out. Longer term the trough in the west remains. Another major storm will move into California this weekend and this will move eastward later next week. That looks to be another storm headed for the Great Lakes. Models forever hint at change in the long term but that change never comes with the trough in the west just locked in place.
Cold shots in this pattern will be transient. Nothing seems to want to break this pattern down. There is no sign of any blocking at all. So until further notice it will be more like late March early April then late February early March.
