Snow Saturday Frigid Arctic Blast Part 2 Arrives Sunday
There is a little relief to the frigid arctic blast today even though we did bottom in the single digits to near 10 degrees this morning. There is an upper air disturbance moving through today and while there isn’t much with it as far as snow is concerned, it is cutting down on precious sunlight and that will limit how warm it gets today. Most highs should reach 20 to 25 which at least is out of the teens.

REGIONAL RADAR
Tonight won’t be as frigid but it still will be very cold with lows in the upper single digits and mid teens. Saturday low pressure from the Great Lakes will redevelop in our backyard. Some snow is likely Saturday. Looking at what is going on with this system it is weak but it won’t take much to generate a coating to a couple of inches and we are sticking with this idea today. There are no changes in my snow forecast map from 2 days ago.
SNOW FORECAST FOR SATURDAY 12/30/2017
Temperatures Saturday will be in the low to mid 20s. Once the low goes out to the east the next blast of bitter cold air arrives Sunday. New Years Eve will be brutal with temperatures in the teens and strong winds. The New Year arrives at midnight with temperatures mostly between 10 and 15 and by morning Monday, lows will range from 5 below zero to 5 above zero in most areas…a little higher in the warmer urban center. Highs New Years Day will not be out of the teens in spite of sunshine.
As far as any major storm threats or even minor storm threats we don’t see anything of consequence at the moment. As long as the Arctic jet remains dominant and doesn’t relax a bit, there really isn’t room for anything of consequence to develop along the East coast. Another shot of brutal cold air will follow late this week as the arctic cold pattern continues with no sign of it breaking down anytime soon.
