Major Storm California Saturday
Weather models continue to point to another major storm heading for California this weekend. This comes on the heels of last weeks powerful storm that is still causing flooding plus the storm that impacted Central California yesterday with heavy rains and heavy mountain snows. This storm is posied to bring heavy rains up and down the state and it will bring another hit of rain and wind to Southwest California as far south as San Diego.

In comparison to last week’s storm this is a bit less intense but the fact that it comes so quickly behind the first one there has been no time to recover. It will not take much rain to cause flooding again. Gales are likely along the coast as well from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
MAJOR STORM CALIFORNIA RAINFALL FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY
Rainfall forecast amounts will range from up to 2 inches over some coastal areas to as much as 4 to 5 inches or more in the mountains. Snow in the mountains will be huge in some places. 4 to 5 feet of snow could accumulate over the next 6 days.

The jet stream pattern in the west has lined up almost perfectly and has been locked into this pattern for a large portion of the winter. The pattern has only strengthened over the last few weeks. There is a deep trough of low pressure along the west coast and strong disturbances hatched in the Pacific continue to crash into the coast from the west. The upper air maps below show the rotation of these upper air disturbances that keep attacking the state in an almost unrelenting fashion.

There is come conflicting news in the longer range as some weather models want to pull the trough out of the west and replace it with a ridge of high pressure and dry air, however the European model wants to drop another trough into the west later next week.

It remains to be seen which weather model has the right idea for the longer term. The pattern has to break eventually but the deep trough in the Pacific has been so persistent that it may take more time to create a major shift in the weather that has been pounding the west all winter long.
