Freezing Rain Chances Monday
The New Year’s holiday forecast is pretty straight forward. The daytime parts for both Saturday and Sunday look good. Sunday looks especially good with mild temperatures that could reach 50 or better in some places. However as we move into Monday we have a set up for a little bit of freezing rain for inland areas.
We have seen a couple of situations like this already so this looks like a repeat performance. Clear skies for part of Sunday night will allow temperatures away from warmer urban centers to drop below freezing and in the 20s in many more rural locations. Overrunning precipitation develops by Monday morning. High pressure over deep snow covered Northern New England will allow cold air to drain southwestward at low levels. This could be a situation where the colder air at the bottom of the atmosphere could be difficult to dislodge for while so we will need to watch this. The precipitation appears to be on the light side but there could also be some freezing drizzle in the mix too which could make getting around a bit difficult. We will keep an eye on this.
