Clouds Arriving Rain Overnight Weekend Shower Issues
We are seeing a heavier overcast to the west and those clouds are beginning to approach this afternoon. Some areas are enjoying a fair amount of sunshine at midday but we will see clouds gradually take over. A wave of low pressure is moving eastward and that will bring some rain overnight.
HRRR FORECAST 2AM THURSDAY JUNE 21, 2018
The HRRR and other models are showing some heavier downpours and even some scattered thunderstorms in the mix so this is going to make rainfall amounts tonight vary widely. Some areas might see a quarter of an inch or less while others could see an inch or more if the heavier downpours move overhead. It is a bit of a dice roll here but the best approach is to cover for some showers and downpours. It will all be over by daybreak and Thursday skies will become Mostly
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Some showers are showing up on the regional radar this afternoon to the west in Pennsylvania. A few showers are also starting to pop up on the local radars. For the most part nothing should happen rain wise until after the evening commute except for Southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of South Jersey as this lead area moves through.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Friday we will see arriving clouds and an ocean wind so this is going to keep temperatures mostly in the 70s. Then the next warm front cold front combination approaches with some showers around Friday night and on Saturday along with a possible thunderstorm. This will not be a continuous rain but figuring out the when and where at this point is rather a fruitless exercise. Temperatures could reach 80 or so by days end away from the ocean depending on how much cloud cover and how much shower activity is around. We can attempt to be more specific tomorrow and Friday as we get closer.
GFS FORECAST SUNDAY JUNE 24. 2018
We may be able to squeeze out a decent though not perfect Sunday as we will be in between two fronts. If it plays out according to plan we should see clouds and some sun with highs in the 80s. Then Sunday night as the second front approaches there will be some showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two.
GFS FORECAST 2AM MONDAY JUNE 25 2018
Behind the front we will see a couple of nice days Monday & Tuesday (outside of some leftover clouds early Monday with highs both days in the 70s. Tuesday morning it will be nice and cool with 50s and even some 40s in areas well inland north and west of the coast. However the long range shows ridges building in the Atlantic and the Southwest US with the Canadian jet stream pulling up northward. This could bring some very warm and humid conditions later next week and into the first days of July.
That Canadian jet stream to the north will remain somewhat active so there will probably be a cold front or two along the way. The pattern does look a bit more summery at least as we head toward July 4th.
