Weather Improvement Coming Faster
The surface map at 2pm this afternoon is about as miserable as you can get for a surface map in June..or for that matter any time in the spring. Except for some areas in Southeastern Pennylvania where they are lucky enough to see a west or northwest wind, everywhere else is dealing with a northeast wind off the cold ocean and a chilly high to the northwest feeding in low clouds, drizzle, fog, and some showers. The upper air storm continues to rotate around in Western NY and there will be no improvement through a good chunk of the overnight with some showers and some light rain and drizzle in the mix. Temperatures in many areas around NYC and points north and northeast are sitting in the low to mid 50s. We had days this winter that were warmer!

However some hope has appeared on the horizon and it seems that we could see some slow improvement beginning on Wednesday. Weather models today are less dynamic with the upper air system is it rotates around the northeast over the next 2 days and then pushes east. The result of this is a suppression of moisture further south and east. Dry air should work its way in from New England on Wednesday and this could mean some breaks of sunshine developing during the day though temperatures will still be on the cool side…highs in the 60s to perhaps 70 in some places.

The worry for Thursday into Friday was low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico moving up the east coast and strengthening. Now it seems with everything more suppressed that this storm will pass well to the east as dry air takes over. If this trend holds, Thursday will be partly sunny with temperatures back into the 70s. This also means that Friday could be mostly sunny with highs in the 70s to near 80. Then the big warm up begins this weekend and we could see 90 degree temperatures popping up as early as Sunday and lasting into Wednesday of next week.
