Warm Weekend Chance Snow Late Monday Into Tuesday

At least we are going to experience a nice warm day combined with sunshine which we haven’t had too much of lately. Recently the warm ups have all come with rain or fog. We see plenty of dry air overhead on the satellite picture this morning so we should have lots of sunshine for most of the day. Temperatures are starting off in the 20s and lower 30s so 50 or better is doable in most areas except right along the immediate coast where a sea breeze is likely to develop.

This is a one day affair with sunshine however as clouds will be arriving late this afternoon. To the west there is a cold front that will be pushing through with some rain developing during the early morning hours and lasting into midday Sunday before sliding out to the southeast. Later Sunday we will have leftover clouds. Highs will be in the 50s before temperatures begin to ease later in the day.

REGIONAL RADAR

The question regarding any snow remains a muddled one. Cold air is poised to return on Monday and especially Monday night into Tuesday. The cold front stalls to the southeast with a wave developing on it. An upper air disturbance is swinging east from the Great Lakes. All these puzzle pieces remain just that at this point…puzzle pieces. The convoluted mess that this is makes a forecast extremely difficult.

Last night’s NAM model which had snow for Monday afternoon into Tuesday..then didn’t have it..now has it again. The problem with forecasting with disjointed pieces in the upper atmosphere as well as the surface is that you don’t know which if any of the pieces wind up coming together and if they do there could be other things like whether temperatures cool enough and how fast. For now we will leave the idea of some snow later Monday into Tuesday morning with the potential for a coating to an inch or so and wait until we see some clarity on all this.
