Upper Low Remains Stalled Clouds Showers Around Into This Evening
The upper low that has been sitting over Northern New England remains in place today and will likely remain essentially stationary into Wednesday. The satellite picture this afternoon shows lots of clouds over New England with the back edge of the cloud cover extending as far south as Central New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Sunshine rules areas to the south while clouds and showers are occurring north of that boundary line.

Regional and local radars are showing showers dropping southward from New England and they are moving into Northern New Jersey and Long Island while they are covering the Hudson Valley and Southern Connecticut with a more continuous rain. These showers will reach their peak going into this evening and there might be a thunderstorm or two in the mix before they all weaken once the sun sets. Temperatures will stay in the cooler 70s where clouds are dominating while in Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania southward thanks to more sun. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s.

After sunset skies should partially clear as showers disappear and lows by Wednesday morning will be mostly in the 60s. Wednesday we will do this all over again with some sun to start followed by clouds and some showers developing. Again the further south you go from NYC the better chance you will see more in the way of sunshine. Once again highs will be in the 70s where clouds and showers dominate while they will gain reach the 80s ( Southern Pennsylvania/Southern New Jersey south) where there is more sun.
The New England upper low will weaken and move southeast on Thursday which will allow for more in the way of sunshine and fewer clouds and nothing more than a pop up shower or thunderstorm. Highs will reach into the 80s.
Friday starts the holiday weekend with a weak back door cold front hanging around and that will put us in very warm humid conditions with some sunshine and the risk for scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Most highs should reach 85 to near 90 until the front pushes a little further south.
Saturday will be a decent day with temperatures a shade lower with moderate humidity. Most highs will be in the mid to upper 80s from NYC south and southwest with slightly lower highs to the north. We will leave in the chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm. Sunday we should see sunshine and that chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm. Highs will reach 85 to 90 with moderate levels of humidity. Overall once this stubborn upper low over New England gets out of the way, we should have decent summery weather through the holiday weekend and most of the time it will be rain free with only minor threats each day.
