Scattered Downpours Into This Evening Better Thursday Summery July 4th Weekend
As we move through the rest of this afternoon, the upper low over New England continues to rotate in a counter clockwise fashion and showing little movement. As the low rotates spokes like a bicycle wheel roll around and move through with scattered downpours and thunderstorms. We have seen a few in some areas today but as always in cases like this, it depends on where they set up and they often set up in different areas each day. Today it seems the counties surrounding NYC got hit with some very heavy rains and localized flash flooding while other areas saw far less or not much at all. Some places are seeing sunshine this afternoon so it is a mix of everything. If you want something different just get in your car and drive a few miles. Temperatures are are topping out in the mid 70s to lower 80s depending on how much sun you received.
SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
We have our eyes on the radar where you can see clusters of showers and thunderstorms along with a few bands rotating from north to south. There are some moving southward in New York State so we leave the risk in the forecast through this evening for a downpour or a thunderstorm. Watch the radar and keep an eye to the sky for threatening weather. That is the best advice I can give.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
The good news is the upper low begins to move southeastward tonight and Thursday and it weakens so we should see partial clearing of skies tonight with most lows in the 60s to near 70. Thursday is actually looking to be a mostly sunny day with highs in the 80s and just a chance for an isolated pop up shower or thunderstorm.
The upper low will be long gone Friday but there will be a weak cold front dropping southward from upstate NY. It could trigger off some showers and thunderstorms but there will be some sun in the mix and south. Hot humid conditions will cover most of the area with most highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s until the front passes. Then Saturday sets up a little cooler with moderate humidity and some sunshine with highs in the low to mid 80s.
Sunday will be very warm, moderately humid with some sunshine and highs in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees. We will the throw in the chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening but they should be mainly inland and not problematic for most folks.
Running through the latest models through the weekend and into early next week, not much changes regarding the overall pattern which is warm to very warm, on the humid side, and with not really very much if any rain. Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered on some days and non existent on others. It is summertime weather in early July with nothing unusual and it carries us through the July 4th holiday weekend and into the first part of next week.
