Satellite loops today show that Tropical Storm Kirk has strengthened this morning with winds now at 60 mph. Kirk reorganized last night and was upgraded again this morning. It continues on a westerly course at about 18 mph. Conditions from here don’t seem to allow for further strengthening but from the last report from the recon, the pressure has dropped 5 millibars to 999 mb. Kirk could gain a bit more strength before it nears Barbados or Martinique on Thursday.
Model track guidance are all clustered close together taking Kirk into the Eastern Caribbean. There it will encounter strong upper level winds again and most of the intensity models weaken Kirk considerable once it gets there. This shear zone is formidable it seems that Kirk will be hard pressed to survive this as it heads westward.
