Thunderstorms Fire Up This Evening Very Warm Humid Weather Continues Into Saturday
The satellite picture late this afternoon is showing a boundary developing over Northeastern Pennsylvania to Northern New Jersey, NYC & Western Long Island. We are seeing some thunderstorms starting to fire up to the west and we are looking for some thunderstorms to develop this evening in the above mentioned area. Those storms will likely move southeastward between 6pm and 9pm so bear that in mind in your evening travels.
The atmosphere is very ripe with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 in many areas and the dew points shot up today from yesterday’s 50s to upper 60s to some lower 70s making for a very uncomfortable late afternoon and evening. Eyes are on the radar through this evening.
Not much is showing up yet as of 3:30pm on the local radars but the disturbance that will trigger these thunderstorms off is moving southeast from Western NY & Western Pennsylvania where thunderstorms have formed. The Storm Prediction Center as a marginal risk of severe weather so don’t be shocked if we see a few isolated thunderstorms becoming severe as they move through.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
After sunset the thunderstorms will weaken and dissipate and then it is on to Wednesday which will be a very warm and humid day with the risk for some scattered thunderstorms with highs in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees again. Thursday might be thunderstorm free for most of the area and I am only forecast some isolated to widely scattered pop up showers and thunderstorms late in the day. It will be very warm and somewhat humid for most of the area with highs in the 80s to near 90 though it will be cooler along the shore. Friday we wash rinse repeat with warm humid conditions and the chance for thunderstorms and highs in the 80s to near 90. The vast majority of the time from now into Saturday will be rain free.
Saturday brings a stronger cold front so it will be hot and humid ahead of it with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s and a good chance for late day thunderstorms as the front nears. This system will move along and we will being to see drier air arriving on Sunday with some sun and clouds and a mostly sunny low humidity day for Monday with highs both days in the low to mid 80s.
