Snow Tonight Into Tuesday Small Accumulation Possible

Two weather systems are in play today and Tuesday. We have the remnant cold front just offshore that brought rain yesterday. Low pressure is developing off the Southeast US coast and will be heading northeast. It will remain separate from energy now moving through the Great Lakes. This is the reason why the snow fall forecast map above has a bit of a gap in between the snow along the coast and the snow inland. This will not be anything major..a coating to a couple of slushy inches is possible between the two system. In between today we will see cloudy skies for the most part with some breaks of sun around this morning. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s and then begin easing late today and tonight as the offshore low moves northeast and draws down cold air.

You can see on the radar above and the local radars below that at least for now the rain is offshore. It will begin filling in and backing northwestward later today into tonight. At least for much of the day side today it will be dry.

The coastal low will impact Long Island, Coastal Connecticut, and Coastal New Jersey. The back edge should reach about NYC overnight into Tuesday morning. Then the western system comes across on Tuesday and produces a coating to an inch or so from the city west. Temperatures tonight will settle in the upper 20s and lower 30s and highs Tuesday just in the low to mid 30s. Skies should clear Tuesday night with lows in the teens to low 20s and Wednesday will be sunny but cold with highs just into the 30s.

Another front with another wave will be approaching for late Thursday. This system continues to look less and less impressive as we get closer and closer to it. For now we we will call for clouds arriving Thursday with highs in the 40s. The some rain that changes to snow Thursday night into Friday but again this doesn’t appear to be anything to be overly concerned with. Another shot of cold air follows for the weekend.
