WINTER STORM WARNING FOR EASTERN LONG ISLAND AND EASTERN CONNECTICUT

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY CONNECTICUT HUDSON VALLEY NYC NEW JERSEY (NORTH OF 195) AND EASTERN PENNSYVLANIA INTO FRIDAY AFTERNOON

With snow beginning during the early morning hours and toward daybreak there has been no real change in the overnight model series. The HRRR model has been pretty consistent all night and this is the latest forecast. It appears that a general 3 to 6 inch snow fall ending between 1 and 3pm on Friday. Temperatures will settle in the upper 20s to lower 30s while it is snowing and then drop to the teens by Saturday morning. More than likely any melting that occurs is likely to freeze up Friday evening creating icy roads.

Radar shows snow breaking out in a narrow band across the Ohio Valley and heading east into New Jersey and the Hudson Valley. The leading edge is not reaching the ground but we should start to see snow gradually overspread the area between 4am and 7am.

As far as the weekend is concerned it will be very cold with sunshine both Saturday and Sunday with highs both days just in the upper 20s to lower 30s and nights will continue to see temperatures in the teens. Monday we will see sunshine give way to arriving clouds. So far tonight the GFS and Canadian model continue to show the development of a major storm to impact later Monday night into Tuesday night. Weather models of course continue to show differences in track but both models show strong development. We will address this issue later on Friday once all the weather models are in.
