Rain Moving East Later Today
Rain Moving East Later Today
We have a fairly loaded radar this morning with rain moving eastward and it will gradually slide offshore later today. There is very little rain going on north and west of NYC this morning and by late this afternoon the bulk of the rain if not all of it will be offshore. The satellite picture below shows clouds covering much of the Eastern US today as a cold front moves through.
US SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Much of the rain showing up on the radar is on the light side. There is nothing of consequence in the Hudson Valley or interior Connecticut. On the other hand the rain is a bit heavier over Southern New Jersey and parts of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Temperatures today are in the 40s and we should be mainly in the upper 40s to lower 50s. for highs. Areas where it it is raining will be a bit lower while the rain falls.
We will see cloudy skies tonight with low in the 30s. Low pressure to the south will be moving up the East Coast on Monday but more offshore than onshore. Meanwhile an upper air trough swings in from the west. It will also be turning colder over the next few days. Look for a downtrend in temperatures over the next several days. There will be the chance for a little snow Monday night and again late Tuesday but it should not be problematic at all. Most of the area winds up with an inch or less and some places may not get much at all.
The offshore system and the upper trough to the west remain separate entities and as long as that is the case this should not be any big deal. There is another system on course for late Thursday and Friday. This is a cold front with a wave developing on it. it seems as if the front will pass through first with cold air that follows and then a shot of snow behind it. A system like this could be a 2-4 inch snow producer for someone. It doesn’t have the appearance of a big snowfall. In between it will be colder this week as the overall pattern seems to be heading back to the pattern of mid December to mid January where cold air masses from Canada start coming down one after another. Winter is far from over.
