Rain 2-3 Inches Central & South Jersey Flooding Possible Winds 20-35 KTS & Gusty Offshore

Weather models continue to zone in on rain for Friday night and last through most of Saturday. The way this is setting up is that if you are north, northwest, & northeast of New York City rain will be much less and there will be a sharp cutoff much like we see in winter storms. It appears that the target zone for excessive rain will be in New Jersey south of route 195 where 3 or more inches or possible. Flash flooding is going to be a strong possibility. The European is probably the furthest south with the rain and we went along with this idea but be advised that other models are a bit further north with all this so a slight shift northward could bring the heavier rain amounts up to about Route 78 in New Jersey along or just south of NYC & straddling Long Island. Rain will begin overspreading parts of South Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania Friday afternoon and then edge northward Friday night.

As far as winds is concerned this is not going to be an issue at all inland. Right along the immediate coast we could see winds of 15 to 25 knots with higher gusts. Offshore winds will pick up to 20 to 35 knots with higher gusts. A Gale Watch has been posted for some of the coastal waters for Saturday. We will have more on this once the entire afternoon model cycle is done.

Meanwhile some scattered downpours are popping up on the radar this afternoon. The satellite loop shows clouds swinging across the Northeast as a cold front approaches. Scattered downpours and one or two thunderstorms could pop up from now into this evening.

Friday is a bit tricky for areas north of Route 78 where clouds will be increasing but if this takes longer to play out, a few breaks of sun could send temperatures into the 80s before falling back. A heavier overcast will mean slightly lower temperatures. Rain should stay south of NYC & Long Island until sometime Friday night.
