Father’s Day Weekend Thunderstorm Threat Late Sunday & Monday
The upper trough that brought clouds in during midday is now moving out to the east and there is nothing but dry air behind it. We are good for tonight with clear skies. Gusty west and northwest winds will diminish as the night wears on with most lows overnight in the 60s. Dry air and high pressure will be moving off the South Atlantic coast on Saturday turning winds to the west south west. We will see plenty of sunshine Saturday with highs reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s with low humidity. There are no weather issues on the radar to worry about until Sunday as a frontal boundary approaches.

Sunday, Father’s Day will be a warm and humid day with clouds and some sunshine. How much sun will determine how high the temperatures get. Highs will reach the 80s. There may not be enough sun to take highs well into the 80s and temperatures will be a little cooler at the area beaches with local sea breezes. A frontal boundary will be to our north Sunday and sink southward Sunday evening. This opens us up to a threat for thunderstorms late Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. Overall it is a good weekend with the vast majority of the time rain free.
The first frontal boundary won’t make it through so we will have to wait for a low in Illinois to head northeast on Monday. The cold front with that system will approach late Monday with the threat for showers and thunderstorms late in the day into Monday night. It will be another warm and humid day with highs in the 80s again.
The weather pattern next week looks like a busy one. As spring winds down to its last few days we are seeing a rather active jet stream pattern setting up with 2 other systems to follow up the one on Monday.
Westerly winds extend far to the south into the Gulf States which prevents it from gettting hot around here. Wednesday could see low pressure pass to our south with a cool onshore flow developing on that day. A stronger short wave trough coming out of the Plains setting us up for more showers on Friday. Days in between look to be dry (Tuesday and Thursday). Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and grandads.
