Drought Relief On The Way
DROUGHT RELIEF COMING
UP TO SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN INTO SUNDAY
I seem to be a little more encouraged by the prospects of some genuine drought relief as weather models are growing more bullish with rainfall amount as we get closer to the event. That is usually a good sign. You can see on the satellite loop tihs morning the strong upper air storm that is moving south southeast through the Great Lakes and into the Ohio Valley while moisture builds just offshore. Some of that will get drawn into the coast and westward so I think we should see 2 shots of rain. The map below deals with rainfall only through Friday evening.
The first coming tonight through Friday morning and a second over the weekend. Now that first shot may be more for areas west of the immediate coast and then spread eastward later Thursday into Friday morning for areas east of New York City. We will watch that and see how it evolves For now we will be dealing with increasing clouds today as clouds move in from the east and from the south.
For the moment the only weather of importance on the radar is down in the Washington DC Baltimore area. But that area will be expanding over time. As the onshore flow saturates the atmosphere look for drizzle or light rain to develop along coastal areas tonight while a steadier rain develops inland and west.
GFS rainfall forecast amounts have increased some from the last couple of runs. It seems several inches of rain over the next 3 or 4 days is back on the table. If it plays out then we have a nice drought denting rainfall.
We should have TROPICAL STORM MATHEW later today as the National Hurricane Center has an AIR FORCE plane checking things out this morning. Weather models overnight continue to show this system could become something to pay attention to in the longer term. Here is my latest JOESTRADAMUS post.
