Colder All Week & Weekend Rain Snow Free Through Sunday
For the first time in about 7 weeks, we aren’t staring at two or three rounds of rain in a 7 day period. The weather pattern has shifted to a cold dry one with weather conditions storm free for almost all of the US except for a few small areas of geography. We have seen temperatures cool off all day today thanks to a gusty west wind. Cold air is gradually moving in. A weak weather front is passing and we should see skies clear out overnight as temperatures head down into the upper 20s to mid 30s by morning.
US SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
The cold air moving in is waking up the lake effect snow machine tonight in Western NY & Northwestern Pennsylvania and that will be going on and off from time to time all week. Two dry cold air masses will be moving in. The first carries us Tuesday through Thursday. The second is for Friday through Sunday with a cold front in between. That front comes through dry early Friday morning.
Temperatures Tuesday will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with some sunshine. Tuesday night and Wednesday night we will be down in the 20s. Wednesday’s highs with some sunshine will be in the 30s. Thursday we could inch back into the 40s briefly before that second cold shot arrives. Friday through Sunday will be quite cold with some sunshine each day and highs just in the 30s. It is a pretty easy weather week but not and easy week for forecasting.
Low pressure moves into California on Wednesday and heads for the Western Gulf States on Friday. Weather models take the low across the lower portion of the Gulf States and it opens the door to the possibility for snow on the northern edge of the precipitation shield. That shield will extend to Tennessee east to the Carolinas (away from the coast). Whether that system makes it here or not is something that long range models are grappling with. You can read more on this on our latest JOESTRADAMUS long range post.
