Cold Weather Arrives Dry Into Weekend Watching Coastal Storm
We begin the day with sunshine as the first of two colder air masses this week has begun to arrive. There is enough going on in the atmosphere that we will likely see some clouds bubble up today to mask some of the sunshine. The breeze from the west or northwest will be there and highs will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. That should be it temperature wise and then its down in the 20s to near 30 tonight under a clear sky. Wednesday will be very cold with ineffective sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 30s, It is a pretty straight forward forecast. During this time frame, other than some lake effect snow squalls well upstate, there are now snow issues at least into the weekend.
REGIONAL RADAR
We are going to see another cold front begin to approach on Thursday but it will still be a nice day with sunshine and some afternoon clouds. We should reach into the 40s Thursday before the front passes later Thursday night. The front won’t have much with it. Then the next shot of dry and even colder air comes in for Friday and the weekend.
WEEKEND SNOW STORM INTERIOR VIRGINIA INTO THE CAROLINA MOUNTAINS
We continue to watch with growing interest a storm that will be moving into California Wednesday and make its way across the Gulf States. It is becoming increasingly apparent that for areas in Western North Carolina into Interior Virginia we could see a rather impressive snowstorm this weekend. Weather models overnight show offshore tracks but the door remains open for the low to slide out a bit further north and have some impacts further up the coast. We aren’t quite there yet regarding where to go forecast wise. The overnight models seemed to have come back a bit northwestward but we need to see more and we have plenty of time to watch since we are still 6 days away from this. Saturday will be dry and cold regardless with sunshine giving way to late day high clouds. Highs will be just in the low to mid 30s. Then we shall wait to see what the next several model runs tell us. We will be discussing this with a Patreon Live Stream today at 11:30am for Patreon members.
