Clouds Snow Rain Showers Today Monday Stronger Storm Rain Wind Christmas Eve
We begin a run of weak disturbances that will be moving through the Northeast. The first one is arriving today with a period of rain and snow showers this afternoon. The second arrives later Monday with another round of possible rain and snow showers. Nothing much is forecast regarding snow accumulation. In areas that see snow showers, depending on temperature, there could be a coating at most.
On to the satellite this morning which has us in solid cloud cover. Radars are showing light snows across much of Pennsylvania and moving to the east northeast. Some of it is drying up before it is reaching the ground.

Following the NAM model you can see the precipitation passes through from west to east. Slightly warmer air gets involved later today so for some mainly south of NYC it will be more passing rain showers than snow showers. Either way we are talking light stuff here.
Temperatures today will be mostly in the 30s and probably not go far tonight. A second system approaches Monday afternoon with a shot of cold air behind it for Monday night and Tuesday. Look for clouds on Monday with temperatures in the 30s to near 40. A period of snow is possible Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Hete too there is an outside chance that somebody gets a coating or perhaps a half inch to an inch or so, mainly inland.
Tuesday and Wednesday look for nice weather with sunshine both days. Most highs will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Then it is on to Christmas Eve and the next storm system and sharp cold front that will head our way.
A few differences are starting to show up on models for this system Timing seems to be the biggest issues as the European and Canadian models seem to slow this system down by about 12 hours or so while the GFS is steadfast on bringing a windswept soaking rain here for later Thursday into Thursday night and gone by Christmas Day. The others bring in rain and wind during Thursday night and last it into Friday afternoon. Colder air follows either way for a couple of days but the differences aloft are rather significant and we defer to punt to later today to see how models sort things out. For now we will go with a windswept soaking rain late Thursday into Christmas Day with colder air coming in behind all this for Friday and next weekend.
