The coastal storm noreaster is meeting and even exceeding forecast expectations in many areas. Blizzard Warnings have now been posted for Northeastern Pennsylvania & the Catskills. Winds at JFK Airport just gusted to 63 mph. Winter Storm Warnings continue for Northwest New Jersey as well as Orange County into Dutchess County. Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect for New Jersey & Long Island as well as the Southern New England coast. High Wind Warnings from the Middle Atlantic States to Southern New England and extends well inland. Frequent wind gusts to 50 & 60 mph continue. Heavy snow continues to fall over an expanded area from right along and just inland of the coast north, west and south while it is more rain as you head northeast. This storm has a rather upside down character to it since the upper dynamcis are driving the snowfall.

The impressive satellite and radar signatures continue to show themselves. Weather models show this starting to weaken after 3 or 4pm and precipitation winds down after 7pm in most areas except maybe along the immediate coast. We will continue to monitor the progress.

Bands of moderate to heavy snow will continue in the warnings area you can see the forming on the radar along the Connecticut NY State border and rotating southwestward around the coastal storm. That storms is sitting just east of New Jersey south of Long Island and tucked in. This is causing winds to continue to strengthen this afternoon into tonight. The next high tide cycle will bring another round of coastal flooding tonight.  No change regarding my snow forecast map.

Blizzard Warning NE Pennsylvania Catskills JFK Gusting 63 MPH Major Storm Tonight Into Saturday Watches Warnings Everywhere

Weather conditions should improve over the weekend slowly but surely. Saturday looks like a weather clean up day with decreasing clouds and wind. Sunday looks better with some sunshine. Highs both days should be in the 40s.
