Bad Hair Summer Ends Autumn Ahead Starts Quietly

THE SUMMER OF BAD HAIR COMES TO A CLOSE

AUTUMN ARRIVES SATURDAY ON THE QUIET SIDE

TROPICS SHOWING A LOT OF NOISE BUT NO THREATS

No doubt Summer of 2018 will be remembered not for its heat but for its humidity which especially for the second half showed an unusual number of days with dew points above 70. Enough of bad hair weather and let us at least look ahead to the weekend which looks relatively uneventful though not without some issues. This morning we start the day off with clouds much like we did yesterday and much like yesterday some areas along the coast should go partly sunny while some areas inland will be struggling with clouds all day. Temperatures will be in the reasonable 70s. Even though a cold front approaches, we won’t see terrible humidity today as the moisture inflow is somewhat limited.

We aren’t expecting much from the cold front that is coming through during the early morning hours on Saturday. While there will be strong to severe thunderstorms late today and evening in Western NY & Pennsylvania those storms will fall apart as they move eastward. A shower or two is possible during the early morning hours Saturday but they should be gone before daybreak. Sunshine develops quickly on Saturday and it should be a nice day with highs in the 70s to near 80. Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days.

Bad Hair Summer

Sunday with the old front stalled to the south we are going to get into clouds and there could be a period of rain or showers across Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania but we don’t think it gets further north than that. Temperatures Sunday for the first day of Autumn will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

The front will start to back up northward on Monday with clouds around and highs again in the 60s to near 70 with an onshore flow. Some rain or showers will come Monday night and Tuesday as the next in a series of clouds fronts moves on through. Under such a pattern we won’t be seeing a return to hot 90 degree weather anytime soon and we could be finally done with 90 degree weather for the year.

Bad Hair Summer

As far as the tropics are concerned we are going to likely see a subtropical or tropical storm develop in the Central Atlantic that will probably be out there for much of the time over the next two weeks. Closer to home is low pressure off the East Coast that is going to drop southward from near Bermuda and the turn back westward. We can see it on the maps above if you follow it along. Weather models don’t do much with this though the European does maintain an identity as it lifts northward. This at least suggests that the moisture from it will likely get involved with the warm from coming northward Tuesday but we don’t see it developing much and nor does the National Hurricane Center at this point.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
