Zeta Rains Some Wind Along Coast And A Little Snow For Some
We somehow managed to get a little dry in here today and the sun managed to make an appearance. Now we have clouds that have moved back in as an upper air disturbance is heading our way with a couple of light showers. It is no big deal but the clouds and the scattered showers will be around tomorrow morning and then they will move out to the east. We could see some improvement however clouds will start coming back in as we set the table for the remnant low of Hurricane Zeta and a strong upper trough that will arrive Friday with a quick shot of cold air to take us through Friday and into the weekend.

Some showers are showing up on the local radars this evening but it seems that none of that is actually reaching the ground. More showers are coming down from the northwest and the ones that survive will be here in the early morning hours and they should be out of here during the morning hours. Temperatures tonight won’t go far and probably hold in the 50s. Wednesday highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Clouds thicken up Wednesday night and then it is on to Thursday where rain will arrive before daybreak and then become heavy at times into Thursday evening. This will be driven by Zeta as it moves rapidly northeastward. Zeta is forecast to re-strengthen to a hurricane tonight and make landfall in Southeast Louisiana late Wednesday.

Zeta’s remnant low will probably strengthen again as it moves offshore into a post tropical storm making its exit south and east of Long Island. Once it goes by the next problem is a strong upper trough that is carrying a storm from the Southern Plains that will follow a similar track.
This brings a second surge of rain here Friday morning and as you look at the gfs loop above, the upper trough brings cold air southward chaning the rain to wet snow across Upstate NY and New England and it might even bring some wet snow to mix in down at or near the coast for a brief time before it all finally exits Friday afternoon. Accumulating snows will likely be north of Route 84 especially in elevated areas.
A slushy couple of inches could accumulate in some areas. As far as total rainfall is concerned, at least 2 and possibly as much as 3 inches could fall from this complex system.
Temperatures Thursday will be in the 50s. Once the low goes by and the second low begins to develop we will see temperatures fall through the 40s and we may possibly get down into the lower 40s or even upper 30s by afternoon especially just north and west of NYC and Philadelphia. As weather improves cold air settles in Friday night we will see temperatures drop to the freezing mark and below by Satuday morning.
Saturday should be mainly sunny but cold with highs just in the 40s. Sunday we will warm back up into the 50s but another front approaches with another shot of cold air that will come in for early next week. Clouds will return Sunday and look for some showers late in the day or Sunday night as the front goes by.
