Rain Wind For Long Island Thursday Into Friday Very Chilly Saturday

Somehow some dry air got in here today and we managed some sunshine through the clouds but now clouds are coming back in as a weak system moves through tonight into Wednesday morning. We could see a few showers with that disturbance and then we will sit in clouds for the rest of Wednesday. Some brightening of skies or even a few breaks of sun are possible but it will be brief because clouds will be increasing ahead of the remnant low of Hurricane Zeta and a second non tropical storm that develops along the Delaware coast later Thursday night into Friday.

The regional radar is picking up on some radar echos nearby and other showers well northwest in Western NY. Look for scattered showers to pass through during the early mornings until shortly after daybreak. This evening however should be dry.

Clouds will increase again later Wednesday and Wednesday night as we set up for the arrival of the remnant low of Hurricane Zeta. Normally tropical systems that come up from the Gulf of Mexico don’t amount to much here but Zeta will likely maintain an identifiable feature when it passes to our south late Thursday into Thursday evening. Rain from Zeta will move in Thursday morning and continue in Thursday evening. Winds along the coast will increase from the northeast and it could get rather gusty later Thursday into Friday morning. Gale force gusts are likely along the coast.

A second low develops Friday morning in response to a strong upper trough moving into the East. Cold air to the north drains southward and we will see a cold soaking rain lasting into Friday afternoon until the storm exits to the east. It actually could get cold enough for some wet snow flakes to mix in Friday though the best chances for any snow will be just to our north in Southern New England and Upstate NY.

Through Friday morning we will see up to 2 inches of rain and there could be an additional 1/2 inch to an inch into Friday afternoon making for a solid soaking. Temperatures are going to be dropping Thursday night and we will be in the very raw lower 40s or even upper 30s during this event. Cold air will be with us as skies clear out Friday night and Saturday morning we could challenge the freezing mark (32) for the first time this season.

Saturday Halloween looks sunny but cold with just in the 40s. Another cold night is in store for Saturday night. Temperatures recover back into the mid and upper 50s Sunday with early sun and arriving clouds. A cold front late in the day could produce a shower. Overall considering how gloomy it has been, the weekend looks relatively good!
