Wrapping Up A Beautiful Sunny Saturday Long Range Looks Chilly

Today seems like it is the best day of the spring season so far. For some areas we are seeing 70 degree highs for the first time in what seems like ages. It is a well deserved day after a not so nice week of weather we just went through. Hopefully you got to enjoy it but there is still time to get outside if you haven’t yet done so. There are no issues through this evening but we do have a weak weather front on the way with a few showers that will occur overnight.

There isn’t much on the regional and local radars yet. Showers will move through probably around or after midnight but they should be gone before daybreak Sunday. Temperatures overnight will likely hold up in the 50s in most places.

We will start the day with clouds but I think by mid morning or certainly by midday we should go to no worse than a mix of sun and clouds. It is going to be another nice warm day with highs reaching 70 to 75 in most places. Definitely take advantage of the great weather and the above normal temperatures because we do have changes coming for the new week ahead.

Low pressure will strengthen to our northeast Sunday night and Monday which brings down chilly air from Canada. We will likely see a mix of sun and clouds with a gusty wind. There is the outside chance for a brief instability shower well inland but for most Monday will be dry. Highs will be back in the low to mid 60s.

What stands out in the upper air pattern for the week ahead is a “split” flow or 2 distinct jet streams. The impressive one is the one from the Canadian Northwest to the Northeast. This pattern not only holds all week but actually strengthens late in the week and next weekend. The result will be below average temperatures beginning Monday and lasting probably into the week beginning May 11th.

This is a weather pattern that winter weather lovers would have killed for back in the winter when a pattern like this was nonexistent. Getting there this week looks actually uneventful. We do see a weak storm system passing well south of us midweek. This could put us in a onshore with cloud issues on Wednesday but the thinking right now is that system passes to the south. A  more important weather system to usher in this cold air for next weekend could bring rain here later Friday into early Saturday. So right now it seems much of the week ahead will be dry.
