WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR ICE ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
HEAVY RAIN TONIGHT ALONG THE COAST TO THE HUDSON VALLEY, FLOOD WATCH NORTH
NICE SUNDAY SOME SUNSHINE, MORE RAIN MONDAY
Cold air is hanging on this morning across inland areas and it will be rather likely that areas well inland from Eastern & Central Pennsylvania southward will be near or below freezing when rain arrives later today. In those areas we have Winter Weather Advisories posted. Those advisories do not extend into New Jersey or the Hudson Valley or Southern New England as temperatures here should warm up faster with the wind off the ocean developing later today.
Satellite loops below show clouds increasing from the south with the regional radar showing rain advancing northward. Looking at where temperatures are below 32 from Interior Virginia northeastward into Central & Eastern Pennsylvania it is basically a race between the advancing rain and how fast (or slow) the temperatures rise. Since the precipitation that is advancing appears to be moderate in nature we could see a fast tenth to two tenths of an inch of inch accumulate in the advisory area.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
For much of the area from New Jersey to Southern New England, with the rain arriving during the afternoon from south to north, temperatures should be well above freezing when rain arrives. It will reach NYC, the Hudson Valley and Southern New England by late afternoon. Tonight it will be rain, heavy at times with an inch to an inch and a half of rain possible. Flood watches are posted for parts of the Hudson Valley where up to 2 inches could fall. All of this ends overnight leading to a better Sunday.
Sunday look for a mix of sun and clouds developing with highs in the 50s! This will be a perfect day for fall clean up or decorating your home outdoors for Christmas if that is your plan. Another weather system arrives Monday with rain by midday as low pressure heads to Southeastern Canada and redevelops near us. This actually looks similar to what we are seeing today and tonight with the difference being a total lack of cold air going into Monday. Cold air returns for the middle of next week behind this system though it will not be extreme like what we just experienced.
