WARMER AIR ON THE WAY RAIN SATURDAY LATE INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING
SOME SUNSHINE WARM SUNDAY MORE RAIN ARRIVES MONDAY
After another day in the ice box with temperatures that managed to break the 30 degree mark we are getting set for a fast warm up for the weekend. The cold air mass we just experienced is so far below average that a snap back to average temperatures will come quickly. While some areas from Central Pennsylvania southward into the interior Middle Atlantic States will see cold air trapped for awhile with freezing rain possible, for our area it will be a rain event as temperatures rise Saturday into the 40s. Rain arrives in Southern New Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania during Saturday afternoon and reaches NYC, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and Southern New England during the early evening. High clouds are already streaming northward and will arrive in time to keep temperatures overnight from falling much.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Rain Saturday night could be heavy at times in some places but this weather system is moving along at a steady clip. Rains should taper off during the early morning hours and should be gone by daybreak. Rainfall amounts should be on the order of an inch to an inch and a half in some places.
Sunday is going to be a good day to get the Christmas decorations up as we will see a mix of sun and clouds and warm temperatures. Highs should reach the low to mid 50s which is only a few degrees above average. However after the bitter cold of the last 2 days, those temperatures will feel quite warm indeed.
Another storm system is taking shape in the Southern Plains behind the system for Saturday. Winter Storm Watches are posted for the Central Plains northeastward into Wisconsin. That low is likely to head into the Eastern Great Lakes and bring another round of rain here with a cold front Monday afternoon and evening. After that it turns colder again but it doesn’t appear that the next air mass will be as extreme as the one we just experienced.
