Winter Storm Watch Tuesday Central & South Jersey SE Pennsylvania For Tuesday
More snow Tuesday into Wednesday is forecast for the entire area with the emphasis on Central & South Jersey (South of RT 195) and for Southeastern Pennsylvania. This is an especially difficult forecast to figure out because if you look at the satellite you have to standout upper air features. Firstly is the offshore storm that is moving to the north northeast offshore and misses much of Central and South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania except for Coastal Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The second sytem is the rather large upper air storm over the great lakes that is dropping southward. You can see from the flow how the Great Lakes system is drawing the coastal low further west rather than kick it out to sea. However it was not west enough to effect most inland areas of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.

Models for Tuesday into Wednesday are absolutely all over the place with this because there is so much energy running around. Some models want to take 2 lows and redevelop them offshore, others just one system but with another disturbance to follow.

How this all plays is going to depend on the first low and what it does as it moves out to the northeast and how the energy that follows holds together and digs to the coast. All possibilities are on the table from a heavy snowfall in some areas to not much in others. We are simply going to have to wait for each model today and figure it out. There is also the possibility that nothing much happens as the energy winds up getting strung out from west to east and never has an opportunity to get anything going.
Longer term another storm could be looming at the end the week to usher in a brutal arctic air mass for the President’s Day Holiday weekend.
