Winter Storm Watch Continues Thursday
Winter Storm Watch Continues Thursday
Winter Storm Watches continue for much of the area from South Central Pennsylvania and North Central Maryland northeastward through much of Southern New England including Philadelphia, New York City, Long Island and Connecticut. Below is my latest snow forecast maps. I basically adjusted the amounts and i’m using 8 inches as my high baseline number.
This is going to be a very fast event and for most of the area we are talking about snow from 4am to about 4pm and the bulk of the snow will fall between 7am and 1pm. You can expect snowfall rates to be very heavy at times on the order of a couple of inches and hour so the total amounts will be achieved relatively fast. Don’t be surprised if you see some lightning and hear thunder during this because of the strong vertical motion and lift that we will see with this storm
SATELLITE LOOP
Satellite and radar loops show most of the clouds and precipitation moving away to the east and we will see some sunshine on this Wednesday with record high temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s before colder air starts to slowly come in later this afternoon and particularly tonight and on Thursday.
REGIONAL RADAR
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Look for precipitation to develop during the early morning hours, starting as rain and then quickly going over to heavy snow Thursday morning. Winds will increase as well to gale force along the coast. Temperatures will fall into the 20s while it is snowing and then once the snow ends, bitter cold air will arrive for Friday morning with lows in the teens and single digits.
Friday we should see sunshine giving way to arriving clouds with highs in the 20s to near 30. Some light snow is possible Friday night into Saturday morning as a warm front sets up to our south. Once that is by we will see clouds with some breaks of sun Saturday with highs back up into the 40s.
