Weekend Thunderstorm Risks Cold Front Arrives Tuesday
Over the weekend we are going to see temperatures go up and humidity will rise as well. While most of the time it will be rain free into early Tuesday there are risks for scattered thunderstorms along the way. Nothing is going to happen this evening and overnight. We are seeing the last of the dry air moving out tonight. Some high clouds have been dropping southward which are blowing off from thunderstorms from the Upper Midwest. Other than this we will be at least partially clear for the overnight with most lows in the 60s to near 70.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
The first chance for thunderstorms will not come until later Saturday evening and overnight as an upper air disturbance drops southward from Upstate NY. This is basically a dying cold front that will have no impact on temperatures behind. it. Saturday daytime we will see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid 80s to near 90 in some places.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK SUNDAY
The Storm Prediction Center is now indicating a marginal risk for severe weather on Sunday for the northernmost areas of New Jersey to NYC, the Hudson Valley, all of Central & Southern New England, and Long Island. The chance for thunderstorms would come very late in the day Sunday or Sunday evening. I anticipate some scattered thunderstorms and not a widespread outbreak. Again much of the day Sunday will be fine with sun and clouds, very warm and humid conditions with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Monday we will repeat it again though it will be the hottest day of this stretch with highs reaching 88 to 94 and the chance for scattered thunderstorms in the evening.
GFS FORECAST TUESDAY JULY 17, 2018
Tuesday brings a strong cold front to the coast by Tuesday night and offers the best chance for any thunderstorms. Behind the front a couple of days of lower humidity, sunshine and temperatures in the 80s are likely.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
