For much of the area it was an official heat wave (3 days of 90+) and the first in May since back on May 2-4 2001. As to the weekend forecast spring returns & summer ends for now. A cooler dry air mass from Canada is pushing southeastward and you can see it on the satellite loop as it advances southward into Upstate NY & New England. This will make for a much cooler weekend with temperatures back down to average or a little bit below. No rain is in the forecast through Sunday. Most highs will be in the 60s to low 70s with a cool northeast to east flow all weekend though it will go more southeast and south as we head into Sunday night.

A strong cold front is headed here for Monday and there will be some showers and thunderstorms with that as it moves through. The first rains will arrive before daybreak in most areas and it should be all done by Monday evening. It looks like it could be a solid inch or more producer. The GFS model is the most aggressive showing a narrow stripe of 2 to 3 inches
Once this system moves through the weak block will bring another round of rain for the middle of the week as low pressure moves up the east coast along a cold front. We will look at this over the weekend.
