Weather Improves Overnight Cloudy Some Rain Thanksgiving Day
The rain is long gone and we spent the afternoon with gusty winds and temperatures that settled in the 40s. Now we look ahead to clear skies for tonight as the satellite picture shows. Clouds to the northwest will gradually disappear overnight as high pressure builds in. What is left of the rain is off the New England coast and moving away.

Temperatures overnight will settle in the 30s to near 40 under clear skies. Tuesday will be a chilly day with the cold high to the north. Sunshine should dominate and high temperatures will be only in the 40s. This high moves out to the northeast quickly and that starts the ball rolling for the next weather system. Tuesday night skies start clear but clouds will develop as an onshore flow begins. Temperatures probably won’t fall much and settle in the 30s to lower 40s.
Wednesday the onshore flow means lots of clouds and highs into the 50s though north of NYC and into New England and the Hudson Valley it will likely stay in the 40s most of the day. Then we will see some showers arrive during Wednesday night and last through at least part of Thanksgiving Day. Highs Thursday will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Friday sees some improvement with some sunshine returning. There isn’t much cold air behind this front so highs will be mostly in the 50s. Things begin to change going into the weekend. A weak front will be passing through Saturday with clouds and highs in the 50s. The front is going to stall and low pressure from the Gulf States will start to push northward on Sunday. This likely leaves us in clouds Sunday with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Rain will move northward up the coast Sunday night into Monday.
One interesting development as the month draws to a close is the return of the jet stream flow from Canada. The short wave trough to the north attempts to phase with the short wave moving across the Gulf States. If it phases faster and further west it could result in a stronger storm system moving up the East Coast but either way, cold air from Canada will come in behind it on strong gusty winds early next week. This brings a cold start to the month of December. The question longer range will be whether the northern jet stream becomes a player for future weather systems down the road. The November pattern of warm weather seems to breaking down to a point where temperatures and weather will be more typical for early December.
