Warmer Air Arriving Sunshine Later Today

Next Cold Front Friday Chilly Weekend

We are seeing warmer air arriving and it usually comes first aloft. That is the reason why we have clouds around this morning but we will go partly to mostly sunny in most areas by mid morning to early afternoon. Temperatures overnight went no where so we do have a decent launching pad.

The primary wind direction today is either west or northwest and this should allow everyone to warm up. The sea breeze will probably be confined to the immediate coast so most highs will reach the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Radars actually showed some showers that developed ahead of the frontal boundary but they were very light and barely enough to get the ground wet. Those showers fell over Southern New England and continue to move southeast. The rest of the day the radars should be silent.

Tonight skies should be clear with lows mostly in the 30s in warmer urban areas but many areas away from the big cities could see lows in the 20s. Wednesday we will see sunshine but we will have a southeast wind thanks to the position of the high which will be just to the east. The result will be cooler temperatures than today. Ocean water temperatures are in the low to mid 40s and as always this makes a big difference in the spring.

The southeast wind will have an impact inland and north but south and west of Philadelphia the impact is less and we will see highs reach the 60s across Southern Pennsylvania southward into Maryland. Thursday the winds go to southwest and that plus sunshine should send temperatures higher everywhere and limited the effects of the cooler ocean to south facing shorelines.

Thursday could be a day of temperature upside and we could see some areas take a run for 70 degrees. The next cold front arrives Friday and it looks to arrive a little faster and a little drier. We still should see highs in the 60s before the chilly air takes over for the weekend.

Temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be back to where they should be for this time of year. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s and Sunday highs will be in the low to mid 40s. Sunshine is likely both days. Meanwhile cold stormy conditions will be out in the Western US and we will likely see some severe weather across parts of the Southern Plains and Gulf States over the weekend. Some moisture should arrive with a chance for a chilly rain here next Monday night into Tuesday morning. It would be much rain but it will be something at least as conditions have been unusually dry since the February stormy pattern broke down. If the dry conditions continue we will have to look for the possibility of brush fires in pine barren areas. A day with a good soaking rain would be a good thing but it doesn’t look possible at the moment.
