You have to love warm fronts in the spring. They can be great if you can get the front push to the north of you like they have in Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania southward. The sun is out and temperatures are reaching 70 degrees in some places. They can be awful if you are to the north and east of the front where you are sitting in low clouds and fog like we have in Northern New Jersey Northeast Pennsylvania northeast to the Hudson Valley, Long Island & Connecticut. Here temperatures are struggling in the 40s and lower 50s. Such is life in the Northeast US in the spring.

The satellite picture shows low pressure developing to the west and the breaks in the cloud cover just south of the warm frontal boundary. Also north of the warm front we have showers which for now are moving north and west of us but the southern end of this could clip some areas with a few passing showers going into this evening and tonight.

The front will only move slowly northward and it may take all night to pass north of NYC. Temperatures won’t be going far from where they are now. Some showers are likely at some point overnight. Friday brings a cold front with showers and perhaps even a few thunderstorms. The cold front is moving a bit slower than expected which happens sometimes in cases like this. Temperatures should reach the 50s and 60s on Friday before the front goes by.

The weekend forecast remains unchanged with sunshine and clouds both Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 50s. There is the chance for a passing shower late Saturday night into early Sunday morning as another cold front passes through. Overall the weekend should be okay. More cold fronts with shots of chilly air behind each front will continue through next week. Monday looks sunny with highs in the 50s. Then with the next front on Tuesday into Wednesday its back to clouds and showers but we could see temperatures rise into the 60s again before the front passes through.
