Warm Air Moving North Backdoor Front Looms Saturday
Warm Air Moving North Backdoor Front Looms Saturday
Warm air is continuing to progress northward this afternoon but clouds are impacting temperatures in areas across New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania whiel the south wind is impacting temperatures along south facing shore lines like Connecticut & Long Island. We also see some showers on the radar with one large band lifting northeastward across NY State while a weaker band lies to the west in Central Pennsylvania. When you look at the satellite picture skies clear as you head south into the Middle Atlantic states where temperatures are in the 70s.

There may be another passing shower or two between now and the early morning hours on Friday. Temperatures tonight won’t fall much as they settle in the mid 40s to low 50s. Friday looks like developing sunshine and very warm temperatures will be covering most of the area with highs in the 70s to around 80.
Saturday the backdoor cold front dropping southward from New England remains a big question. A number of models are pushing that front southward faster than early forecast. This won’t impact Central and Southern New Jersey. 70s to near 80 degrees are a lock for that area. However for Northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, northeastward into Connecticut and Long Island this could be an issue in the afternoon and evening if the front is indeed further south. It should reach 70 in these areas before noon and then temperatures would start dropping during the afternoon, first in areas to the east and north and then late in the day and at night south of NYC. Some sunshine will occur until the front passes and then low clouds will come in from the east. Timing here is everything as far as the forecast is concerned for Saturday.
Sunday will be cloudy raw and cool with some rain around. Temperatures will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s all day and then rising Sunday night as the front moves northward again. Then the rains come Sunday night into Monday afternoon with a couple of inches of rain doable here. Temperatures will reach the 60s on Monday until the cold front passes. Dry cool air returns Tuesday.
