Two Cold Fronts Usher In A Fantastic Pleasant Father’s Day Weekend

All systems are go for a fantastic pleasant Father’s Day weekend. Ahead of it today we have a satellite view that shows us under clear skies across most of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states. Dew points are at comfortable levels in the 50s. We have no issues at all today so enjoy the lovely day. Highs will reach a range of about 80 to as high as 85 in some inland areas while it will be in the 70s along the immediate coast. The radars are taking a break today and they won’t be worked too hard over the next couple of days as two cold front move through. The gfs model loop above which takes us from now through the weekend show one front passing through Thursday night and a second during the day Friday.

We will start to see humidity levels come up a bit tonight and Thursday as the first front approaches. There might be a shower or thunderstorm inland tonight but they should be widely scattered and mostly isolated. lows will be in the low to mid 60s. Thursday will be very warm and more humid with sunshine but late in the day and evening there will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. As far as severe weather risk is concerned there is a marginal risk for an isolated severe thunderstorm in the mix from westernmost New Jersey westward but we do not see any kind of widespread severe weather activity.

Ahead of the second front Friday we will have northwest winds and that sets us up for a very warm to hot day but once the second front passes in the afternoon, dew points will being to drop rapidly and that will make things more comfortable. Highs Friday will be in the mid 80s to around 90 degrees and it will be just as warm inland as at the coast. Then here comes the cool air!

A deep trough forms off the East Coast this weekend and that pulls down dry cool Canadian are that makes it all the way down into the Southeastern US!  This puts us in cruise control for the weekend. Saturday will be on the breezy side with a gusty northwest wind and a good deal of sunshine. There should be nothing more than a few patchy clouds here and there. Highs will be just in the low and middle 70s in most places!

We will be under clear skies and rather cool conditions Saturday night with Sunday morning lows in the 50s and some inland cold spots will be in the 40s. Sunday looks like a lovely Father’s Day with plenty of sunshine and still on the breezy side. Highs will be in the 70s again with very low humidity. It will be a near perfect end to the last weekend of the spring season. The trough will hold off the East Coast Monday and not pull out until Tuesday. That will keep temperatures below average and the next chance of any showers won’t come until later Tuesday.
