TWO OTHER TROPICAL WAVES MOVING WEST

Tropical Storm Fiona has been hanging on quite well over the last couple of days despite the very strong shear that is clearly evident. You can see the cloud tops getting blown away to the east however you can also see a new burst of convection firing up around midday so the tropical storms continues to live on as it tracks in what appears to be a west northwest direction.

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was
located near latitude 22.9 North, longitude 53.3 West. Fiona is
moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this
general motion is expected to continue during the next couple of
days.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph (65 km/h)
with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 24
hours, and Fiona could weaken to a tropical depression later
today or tonight.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches).

Fiona is still forecast to weaken into a remnant low over the next few days which is in agreement with some (but not all models) as the Canadian model wants to spin this back up once it gets west of 60 west. However it should be noted that the Canadian likes to pretty much spin up everything.

TROPICAL WAVE OFF THE AFRICAN COAST

We also see a strong tropical wave off the African coast and this system on the satellite loop above looks well defined. The National Hurricane Center has raised the probablity of a depression forming to 70 percent in the next 2 days and 90 percent in the next 5. With regards to the other tropical wave in the Central Atlantic it is  still there moving westward southeast of Fiona. There is a lot of dry air at mid levels which is preventing this from developing further. Condtions are forecast to be more favorable further west so we will see what it does when it gets there.storm free

With regards to impact longer term we will discuss this in a new video later this afternoon.
