TROPICAL STORM BEATRIZ MOVING INLAND INTO MEXICO MOISTURE MOVING INTO GULF OF MEXICO
The satellite loop below shows tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Beatriz in the Pacific moving northward into the Gulf of Mexico as the tropical storm moves inland on the south coast of Mexico overnight.
The loop below shows the storm with its convection heading on land with top winds of about 45 mph. Usually storms on the Pacific side tend to move westward and offshore bur due to south southwest winds aloft extending southward into the low latitudes we are seeing this northward motion.
Most of the model guidance tonight wants to take the tropical core of this system into the Southwest Gulf of Mexico over the next 2 days. Some of the global models such as the European do regenerate this system back into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the weekend once it is in the Gulf.
Crossover storms from the Pacific to the Atlantic side do happen on occasion. We see the reverse happen more often as the tropical storm season moves into the summer and fall months. The GFS tonight shows low pressure across much of the Western Gulf of Mexico into early next week but it doesn’t do much with it. At this time we will just keep a watch on things over the next few days and see how this all plays out. Global models have a habit of developing systems that never wind up happening and they also miss them as well. If it were to develop it wouid be named Brett since we have already seen the first tropical storm on the Atlantic side which was Arlene back in April.
