Tropical Depression Forming Eastern Atlantic
Based on satellite loops this morning disturbed weather southwest of the Cape Verde Islands has become better organized and a tropical depression has formed here. Conditions are quite favorable for a tropical storm to form here during the next 24 hours as this system continues its track toward the west. Advisories by the National Hurricane Center may be initiated later today.
Tropical Wave in Central Atlantic Looks Better Organized
The tropical wave that has been moving westward in the Central Atlantic has been having problems due to lots of dry air that is over the tropics. However it seems that this condition is relaxing this morning and we have seen an increase in convection overnight and during the day to day so far. This wave continues moving generally toward the west and conditions are gradually becoming more favorable for development. We also see on the loop below that what was Tropical Storm Fiona and is now a depression continues to undergo shearing and there is not much left with Fiona other than a small ball ball of thunderstorms and a weak circulation.

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Fiona was located near latitude 24.6 North, longitude 59.7 West. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h). A continued west-northwestward motion with a gradual decrease in forward speed is forecast later today and on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Fiona could become a remnant low during this time.
