Sunshine Summer Return Today Highs Near 90 Degrees

A new day begins with a new air mass and we see sunshine summer returning across the entire region from Pennsylvania to Southern New England today. Lots of sunshine with just a few passing clouds and a west to northwest wind will send temperatures up to the upper 80s to near 90 in some locations. The stalled front to our south is gone. Hurricane Gert is accelerating to the northeast. All is good with the world today. Just one small note of caution is if you are headed to the shore today be it Jersey or the Long Island south shore there will be an increasing surf and rip current issue as Gert rips up the coastal waters for the next day or 2.

i’m expecting radars to remain mostly on the quiet side today and tonight. Skies tonight should be mostly clear though there could be a little bit of patchy fog with lows in the 60s to near 70. Thursday we will see sunshine for most of the day from Northern New Jersey to NYC to Long Island north and east however across Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey clouds will be coming in ahead of the next warm front cold front combination. Showers may actually develop in Southern Pennsylvania and Southwest New Jersey later Thursday afternoon. The winds turn onshore Thursday so highs will be in the lower 80s on average in most places. Showers and some heavy downpours are possible in some areas Thursday night into Friday morning. Then a warm humid day for Friday with another chance for showers and thunderstorms late in the day or Friday night.

SOLAR ECLIPSE WEATHER OUTLOOK PERCENT OF SKY COVER IN CLOUDS

The weekend right now looks to see improving weather conditions though we may have an upper air disturbance or two moving through producing a few clouds. On the whole the weekend looks good and Monday is shaping up to be sunny and cloud free enough for Solar Eclipse. Latest forecasts for 2pm Monday show less than 30 percent sky cover for a large portion of our area. Lets hope this holds.
