Sunshine Nice Next 2 Days Showers Over The Weekend Active Pattern Lies Ahead
We are looking at a couple of nice days and a couple of warmer days to finish off the week. A warm front went by last night. Temperatures bottomed in the 30s in most places. That sets us up for a nice temperature rebound today with mostly sunny skies. Highs will reach the upper 40s to some lower 50s. There are no issues on the radar to worry about. High pressure to the south keeps things dry. We are in a good place today.

Tonight will be nice and clear with light winds. We should note that the Northern Lights may be visible as far south as Virginia thanks to an unusually strong solar storm that occurred two days ago. Usually the Northern Lights aren’t seen this far south and the forecasts are erratic at best but we will keep our fingers crossed. Temperatures overnight will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s with the exception of warmer urban settings. Those settings will be closer to 40.
Friday looks nice and sunny with highs reaching the low to middle 50s in most places. Then we turn our attention to low pressure coming out of the Plains and heading to the Great Lakes with a trailing cold front. Clouds will arrive later Friday night and Saturday looks to be a cloudy day. There could be some renegade showers that develop on Saturday but the main event is during Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Weather conditions should improve Sunday afternoon with leftover clouds and some breaks of sunshine developing. Skies should clear Sunday night ahead of the Geminids Meteor Shower which should be very active Sunday night. Then headed into next week we are going to begin a rather active period of weather. A storm passes off the Carolinas Monday taking rain to the south but high pressure will be building to the north. Some sun and high clouds are forecast for Monday with highs in the 40s. It will turn colder into Tuesday and Wednesday. A blocky signature in the upper air pattern develops in the North Atlantic. This is going to potentially set us up for an interesting situation for the middle of next week. The strength of the blocky signature will determine many things including timing of precipitation and precipitation type. There are other systems that will follow this one in the long range as this pattern should hold through the end of the month.
