FINALLY SUNSHINE RETURNS, CHILL TEMPS & WIND TODAY
DRY FRIDAY THOUGH CLOUDS ARRIVE
RAIN LATE SATURDAY INTO EARLY SUNDAY, WARM SUNDAY UPPER 50S LOWER 60S
We have a major storm this morning sitting just southeast of Nova Scotia with pressures below 960mb or basically a strong category 2 hurricane equivalent. Finally we have some improvement in sky conditions this morning as the intensifying low basically tightened things up and the upper air storm system has moved out to the east. The back edge of clouds from the storm is in Eastern New England. We should see a better day with some sunshine though there will be some patchy clouds developing. There is still a bit of a breeze out there but the winds have eased from yesterday. Highs should be in the low to mid 40s.
There are no radar issues today into early Friday. Skies should be clear for part of the night but some high clouds will be headed here from the west thanks to a weakening system from the Midwest. Temperatures will be in the 30s…some 20s in cold spots where winds drop off. Friday look for lots of clouds with highs in the 40s. I think there is an outside chance of an isolated rain or snow shower.
There are no important changes to the evolution of Saturday’s weather system that heads to the Great Lakes. Saturday will be cloudy. Rain spreads across New Jersey later int the after and to NYC by evening and Southern New England and Long Island after that. It should be gone before daybreak Sunday. Then a west wind and some breaks of sunshine should take temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Much colder air arrives for next week and this sets up the next weather system coming out of the Gulf States for Tuesday. Models continue to struggle with this and overnight weather models were no different. It is beginning to appear to me that this will be snow or nothing. We will be watching models this afternoon for clues or at least a better consensus on what is going to happen. Regardless it will be cold next week as the flow from Canada will be strong.
