Gusty Winds Overnight Wind Ease
Dry Thursday Friday, Rain Late Saturday, Drying Out Sunday
A major storm is strengthening rapidly east of Cape Cod & south of Nova Scotia tonight. This was the reason why we had such strong winds today with gusts over 40 mph at times. While it is still rather breezy we are now passing the peak of the wind activity. It will still be a bit breezy overnight but the winds will be easing slowly through the day Thursday. The rotation of the storm offshore is throwing back cloud cover from the northeast. As the storm tightens up so will the cloud cover and we should see some partial clearing of skies with lows in the 30s overnight. Winds will make it feel like it is in the 20s.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Radars are continuing to pick up bands of snow showers in Upstate NY into to parts of Northern Pennsylvania but here too we have seen the snow activity diminish somewhat and the slow improvement trend from the stand point of snow showers will be underway tonight and Thursday.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Thursday looks like a better day with some sunshine breaking through the clouds (finally) and temperatures in the 40s. High clouds from a weakening system from the Plains and Upper Midwest will move in Thursday night and Friday but no precipitation is forecast from this. Temperatures Friday will be in the 40s.
The active stormy pattern continues this weekend as another storm heads for the Great Lakes and a warm front heads northward Saturday. Rain will develop in the early afternoon in Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania and then reach NYC by late afternoon and Southern New England by evening. This should move through fast with rain ending in Maryland and Pennsylvania in the late evening Saturday and shortly after midnight from NYC east.
Rainfall amounts will in the 1 to 2 inch range in some places so given the soaked conditions from recent rains, look for some local flooding to occur. Weather conditions will improve on Sunday and it will be a warm day with some breaks of sunshine. Highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Colder air arrives Monday.
Tuesday of next week there is the potential for another storm system to impact us and there will be cold air around. Weather models are very unclear and diverse as far as how this plays out. You can read more about whether there will be a snow/ice/rain threat next week on the latest post from JOESTRADAMUS.
