Soaking Rain Raw Cold Next 2 Days
The leading edge of precipitation has moved through this evening but it didn’t amount to much. This time of year the air aloft is still very cold and under the right conditions some sleet or wet snow flakes are not a surprise and there were a few around this evening that moved through parts of NYC Northern New Jersey and Long Island. Much of what the radars were showing didn’t reach the ground. Now we wait for the main event beginning late tonight as low pressure heads across the Ohio Valley and then redevelops along the Maryland coast Friday night. The set up is perfect for a cold soaking rain on Friday and Friday night into early Saturday morning. Some of the rain will be heavy at times especially late Friday morning into Friday night. In areas under Winter Weather Advisories (Northeast Pennsylvania, parts of the Hudson Valley and the northern half of Connecticut (north of Route 84) will see wet snow and sleet out of this and several slushy inches or more could fall in elevated areas.

Rain will last into Saturday morning and then move away to the east. Weather conditions should improve from west to east though clouds may not get out of the way until late Saturday or Saturday night. Temperatures through all of this will be in the cold upper 30s to lower 40s and in the low to mid 30s in areas under Winter Weather Advisories. Sunday will be the better of the two weekend days with sunshine and highs back into the 50s. More storminess lies ahead with rain on Tuesday and again late next week.
