Heavy Rain This Afternoon Tonight
Today and tonight the big story is the heavy rain that is coming. Flood Watches are posted for parts of Western New Jersey while we still have Winter Weather Advisories up for Northeast Pennsylvania, the Catskills and for Eastern Areas of the Hudson Valley and Connecticut north of route 84. Right now I’m thinking the advisories are precautionary and probably a bit overstated. Satellite and radar loops show heavy rains to the south advancing and lifting northeastward. The heaviest rain are this afternoon and tonight. Rainfall forecast amounts are above and it looks like a solid inch and a half to two inches of rain total.

Radars are busy and will remain so into Saturday morning. Late tonight some models change the rain to sleet and wet snow across the Hudson Valley and Connecticut and this is the point that those areas with elevation could pick up a slushy couple of inches. Rain will end from west to east Saturday morning with leftover clouds to follow. Temperatures will be in the mid 30s to lower 40s throught the event. Weather conditions improve on Sunday with sunshine returning and highs back in the 50s.
