Snow Tonight Thursday Morning Biting Cold
This morning we have a biting strong northwest wind and some sunshine and clouds. Temperatures are in the upper teens and lower 20s combined with a 30-40 mph wind at times and you have wind chills down in the single digits to near zero. We will see sunshine for most of the day until clouds arrive late this afternoon from west to east. Temperatures are going to struggle all day with highs just in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
SATELLITE LOOP
REGIONAL RADAR
The satellite loop shows the next system dropping out of the Northern Plains as it swings rapidly southeastward. This low will produce 2-4/3-5 inch snows across the lower Great Lakes and Northern Ohio Valley today into tonight. Once it reaches Pennsylvania the big question is whether the snow survives the trip over the mountains.
NAM SATELLITE RADAR FORECAST TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING CLICK TO ANIMATE
The NAM model above shows the forecast satellite and radar for late tonight into Thursday morning. Snow arrives around of before midnight in most areas and it basically snows for about 4 to 6 hours leaving a coating to an inch or so which was my forecast yesterday and it remains so today. I may extend the area a bit further south later this morning.
Sometimes with systems like this you wind up with pockets that get a little bit more than a coating to an inch and I’m allowing for that possibility. Temperatures tonight will be in the low 20s in many places which will not only mean the snow sticks to all surfaces but it could make for a rather slick Thursday morning commute so bear that in mind. Sometimes these small events are worse for travelling than the big events. Sunshine develops later Thursday with highs in the lower 30s.
Friday looks cold with sunshine and arriving clouds with highs in the 20s to near 30. Low pressure will develop to our east and pass offshore with no consequence. The weekend looks good with clouds and some sun both Saturday and Sunday as temperatures moderate.
