Snow Tonight Misses Areas South of NYC & Route 78.
Early Snow Call Friday Morning
First things first is tonight’s snow that is coming down from the northwest. Keep an eye on the radar. The regional radar shows much of the snow setting up to the north and moving east southeast. Some radar echos have been moving over areas from NYC east and north and there have been occasional snow showers over parts of the Hudson Valley and Long Island as well as in parts of Connecticut sugar coating the ground in some places. This was a minimal event for our area and it remains so. Watch the southern edge of the radar echos in Northern Pennsylvania as they slide southeast tonight. They should clip Northern New Jersey to about NYC and Long Island on the southern end. More snow should fall northward up the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. Little snow should fall in New Jersey south of Route 78. It is a coating to an inch or so…higher amounts northward up the Hudson Valley north and west of Route 84 and in Connecticut north of Route 15. This should all be done by daybreak.
REGIONAL RADAR
You can see the activity on the local radars and how it is all lining up so far. Some of this reaches the ground and some of it doesn’t. The air is dry and cold and temperatures north and northeast of NYC are in the cold upper teens to mid 20s. Temperatures in South Jersey are in the mid and upper 30s and that is our boundary that shuts off the southern end of the snow.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Weather conditions improve Thursday with leftover clouds and some sun with highs in the 30s to near 40. Then another small weak system heads northward toward us for Thursday night into Friday morning. This is going to be a weakening area of snow that comes in for about 4 or 5 hours during the early morning hours Friday and then it is done shortly after that. This year is the champion of coating to a couple of inches on the snow forecast maps.
After this is done another small system comes up for Friday night into Saturday morning and this is going be another weak system that produces a minimal amount of precipitation, either snow or rain or a mix. We will figure this one out tomorrow. Then comes Sunday which will the the last and strongest of all these weather systems. We discuss that on our long range post.
MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
