Snow Risk Diminishes Wednesday Warmer 60s Possible Over The Weekend

The small window of opportunity for snow on Wednesday seems to have slammed shut rather hard today. Yesterday’s cold front came through with a shot of colder air behind it and while we are seeing some sunshine, temperatures are struggling with highs just barely reaching into the 40s. It is a quick shot of cold air that will move out later this week. In the meantime yesterday’s front is stalling out across the south and waiting for a wave to develop on it and move eastward on Wednesday.

Clouds will increase some tonight with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Wednesday’s system was never anything that was going to do something other than maybe a coating to an inch or so in some areas. Now it may not even be able to do that. The colder northern jet stream is suppressing any southern energy and taking low pressure out to the south and east with very little precipitation.

This is going to leave us in clouds and the chance that there could be a rain or snow shower but I am leaving that in as a precaution. We could very well go the whole day without a flake, a raindrop, or a ice pellet. Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 30s to around 40 in most places. As the low moves away, weather conditions improve Thursday with some sunshine and highs back into the 40s. A warm front will move through Thursday night with some scattered snow showers inland and rain showers scattered around elsewhere.

Warmer air will begin to arrive Friday and a cold front will start to advance eastward over the weekend. Friday temperatures will move higher but a second warm front will need to pass to take temperatures up to the next level. Look for clouds Friday with highs in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Then another warm front passes with a few showers possible Friday night. This sets us up for a warm Saturday of clouds and sun with with a south wind and highs reaching the low and middle 60s.

It will be a one day warm up because a cold front will set off showers and perhaps even a thunderstorm late Saturday into Sunday morning before colder drier air comes in during the day Sunday. Next week looks to be a mostly warmer than normal week with no major storms or cold fronts. In fact it will be warm all week long and I would not be surprised if we wind up seeing record highs on a few days next week, especially if there is a west wind.
