Snow Lovers Could See The Worst of All Worlds
You can’t have snow with an upper air map looking like this. This is for next Tuesday and the the European at least resolves all this with a deep trough at 95W. The problem with all the big events in the stratosphere is it doesn’t guarantee that the troughs and ridges will set up in a favorable way for snow in the East. The trough is 900 miles too far west. The European also suggests that whole vortex in the upper middle of the map drops southward into the Great Lakes later next week.
If this verifies we are talking absolutely brutally cold air coming into the Northern Plains and upper midwest. We are talking lows between -30 and -40. Some of that cold air gets in here but the upper low does lift to the northeast which takes the core of the cold air to our north. Of course the European is doing this in the time frame where it has been horrendous lately. If this is right…low from iowa to detroit..rain here…maybe some snow or sleet at the start Tuesday cold to very cold and dry on either side of that.
Looking at the GFS and the UKMET, it is all pretty much the same. If the models are correct you can cross off the next 2 weeks from your snow schedule. On the other hand the fact that the models show nothing but cold and dry is probably a bullsh development though I will warn if that vortex drops in like a bowling ball we will freeze with no snow other than scattered snow showers every once in a while. .
