Snow Forecast Updated Beautiful Saint Patrick’s Day

We have updated our snow forecast map for Saturday into Sunday morning. The main accumulation time frame is Saturday 5pm to Sunday 8am. This is my best guess at this point. Weather models are conflicting on this in all directions and my confidence level on this is very low and will likely remain so until the system plays itself out. We have weather models showing as much as a foot on Long Island for example and the same variation of the that model (the NAM) showing 3 to 4 inches..to other showing even less. Others show more snow from NYC west and north and less on Long Island and Southern Commecticut but more to the east in Southeastern New England! When information conflicts like this the logical thing to do is split the difference and pray. The bust factor in this forecast is HUGE!

JOE’S SNOW FORECAST MAP FOR SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING

Meanwhile it is a gorgeous Saint Patrick’s day with sunshine, not much wind and temperatures in the 40s. We should see sun for the rest of the day before clouds from the west begin increasing this evening and tonight.

Precipitation should arrive around daybreak in areas just west of the coast and spread eastward. Most of what falls on Saturday will be light and could very well be rain from NYC and Long Island southward. Areas just to the north of the coast will see wet snow but it won’t stick to roads during the day. After about 5pm radars will load up and temperatures will drop. At this point snow will begin to accumulate on all surfaces with the heaviest overnight into Sunday morning. That heavier snow should be concentrated along coastal areas from Monmouth County Northeast to NYC to Long Island and Southern Westchester  & Connecticut south of Route 15. Snow should end from west to east but there is a chance it linger along coastal areas as a large upper air storm spins around on Sunday just offshore.

Whatever happens, Monday we should see some sunshine with highs in the 50s to melt all this away. Hopefully this is the last one for awhile and the longer range pattern suggests that there are no threats after this one for all of next week. We can only hope it’s the last one until next winter.
